My Approach to Helping
The most valuable intervention I offer is to simply be present, to listen, and to validate what you are experiencing. From here a diagnosis can be made which will then guide interventions. I am able to prescribe medications, am selective in prescribing and tend towards the lowest dose needed. Medications do help, they do have their place, and they work much better when used in conjunction with psychotherapy. I am able to use mindfulness practices to help reset your attention. I have experience using motivational interviewing techniques to address ambivalence and uncertainty in wanting to make changes. I have specialized training in using Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to address and treat past trauma's.
Asking for help and being vulnerable is not easy. Sometimes we have had unpleasant experiences with a psychiatric provider, and hundred other reasons not to ask for help. Yet, we are wired for interpersonal connection, we want to be listened to, we want to be understood, we seek validation. I am ready to catch you when you are ready to reach across that gap.
