My Approach to Helping
Somatic psychotherapy (also known as body-centered therapy) is an approach that works with the mind and body as a holistic entity. Somatic is Greek for "the lived experience." Depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, and obsessive-compulsive (OCD) challenges are difficult to face, yet bringing the mind and the body together can alleviate these symptoms and support well-being, happiness, and authenticity. Somatic psychotherapy works with thoughts, emotions, and bodily experiences as inter-functioning aspects of you as a whole being. Somatics is much like other therapies, yet connecting with and listening to your body's cues are also used to support growth and realization. Somatic approaches are effective because they work to resolve past experiences caught in the body and to build curiosity and possibility for a greater range of choices in challenging situations. Getting in touch with your core resources and intrinsic value, together we work towards a whole and integrated self: body, mind, and spirit. The heart of my work is connecting, being real, and being present with you and your relationships. I love witnessing growth, development, and real happiness in my clients. The diversity of situations and challenges that we each face allows us to work together along a continuum that freely moves between education and therapy.
