My Approach to Helping
My intention as a licensed Creative Arts Therapist is always to be with you through the pain and joy of what you experience. Sometimes words are not enough to say how you feel and it's easier to use a different form of self-expression, such as art, if you choose it. My work is supportive and I will help you find new ways to use your strengths and even your limitations to improve your life.
I create a relaxed environment where being open with thoughts and feelings is safe and we work to build trust between us. This means going at your own pace in order to feel understood and comfortable. I use imagination, body awareness, and thought process to find your unique capacities for taking action in your life. We all adapt in creative ways to our early development and to living our lives in the present. I will help you find new ways to adapt for successful personal and professional accomplishment.
I listen attentively in order to understand you in the moment. Sometimes what you say can lead to a different meaning than was intended or there are many levels of meaning in various behaviors you repeat. We look at them together to clarify both problems and solutions. The relationship we develop in order to do this is important to me because it allows me to see what is in the way of you feeling a sense of relief and satisfaction.
