My Approach to Helping
I believe that therapy works to recognize the humanity of our experiences and to seek out the lessons that our own challenges may present to us. Your story and experience are a privilege and at the foundation of our work is the building of trust and respect. Together, we can increase empowerment and self-compassion.
Often one seeks therapy when feeling stuck (hopelesshelpless, overwhelmed, panicked, fearful, shameful, lost, confused) resulting in feeling alone and isolated. I provide thorough assessment to aid in identifying specific presenting concerns and tailor my therapeutic approaches to client needs. The initial phase of therapy includes mental health education so that a new understanding can be developed. Therapy is both self- awareness building and development of helpful client-tailored tools, which together, contributes to living a meaningful life.
I utilize an integrative framework, both emphasizing the exploration of how one’s past informs their current beliefs and relationships, as well as the development of helpful coping tools to create active change using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) treatments.
