My Approach to Helping

Meeting with a counselor requires a lot of courage, so I have great respect for anyone who wants to make that journey. I strive to provide a non-judgmental space for you to identify your areas of concern and ultimately what you hope to change. Our goal is to build awareness together, so that you can make different choices instead of automatically doing the same things that no longer work for you. We will work together to help you pay greater attention to your mind and body processes (i.e., a holistic approach) and facilitate a deeper connection with yourself and others.

More Info About My Practice

I am a TriCare and Custom Design Benefits provider. If you have have a different type of insurance that includes out-of-network benefits, we can bill for that. I also offer free 10-minute phone consultations, if you would like to explore a future therapeutic relationship.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I particularly enjoy working with clients who have grief andor loss issues that they would like to explore. My ability to stay emotionally present with a client and their range of feelings and experiences associated with loss is an important part of this meaningful work. Grief work can ultimately become life-affirming as well as life-changing, so I feel particularly privileged to sit with clients who struggle with loss. I am an EMDR-trained counselor, which often helps in my work with clients who have trauma histories (which also includes grief and loss).
Also, I have worked with many clients to help them manage their anger response and become more aware of other feelings, thoughts and behaviors that accompany their anger. Anxiety, for example, is often present along with anger. I help clients identify how they would like to change some of their automatichabitual responses and then work toward those goals. We also often look at what is driving the anger andor anxiety, which typically involves much deeper, healing-oriented work.

My Role as a Therapist

I believe that I help to empower others and accompany them on their unique journeys. I also believe that all clients have the ability to build on some healthy patterns, unlearn unhealthy ones and create new patterns that feel empowering and satisfying. We work together to discover what feels like a good fit.
