My Approach to Helping
So often, we know we need to make a change, but either don't know where to start or just can't seem to do what needs to be done. You don't need to continue living with depression, anxiety, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, a bad job or an unhappy relationship! Change is always possible, and I'm honored and delighted to be able to help others make that change, just as others have helped me. My goal is to help uncover and resolve underlying blocks and problematic patterns, help you identify practical solutions, develop important life skills and bring you to a place where you are experiencing life as more joyful, self-expressive and fulfilling.
I have over 25 years experience offering compassionate, goal-oriented therapy for adults and teens struggling with trauma/abuse histories, depression, anxiety, relationship concerns and life transitions such as divorce, a new relationship or career change. I specialize in Lifespan Integration and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), two powerful yet gentle technique that can quickly and effectively resolve past issues that are causing current life problems. They can help to build a positive core sense of self, better ability to deal with emotions, and resolve old traumas to the point where you no longer have frequent, painful memories, emotional flooding, emotional numbness, depression, anxiety or related low self esteem.
I also work with current life issues problem solving, communication skills training, and relaxation skills training. I have a great love for helping people learn to manage their emotions through mindfulness development. Of all the skills I've taught over the years, mindfulness is the one I most often have people tell me was helpful and even life changing.
My work with adolescents uses respect, humor, and insight development to help young people resolve depression, improve self esteem, become more responsible and effective, develop healthier relationships with family and friends and take the first steps in defining their identity and life path.
I have been in practice since 1992, and have worked with children, adolescents, families and couples. Although my current practice is more focused on individual work with adults and teens, this past experience helps me to be a better, more understanding support for people struggling with partner and parenting issues. While I have particular expertise in helping people resolve old trauma, the focus of our work together is not really the past, it's making the life you want happen, here and now.
