My Approach to Helping
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 15 years of experience working with adults, couples, families, and children. I bring insight, compassion, understanding, and unconditional acceptance to the work I do. I believe a therapist’s first priority is to provide a safe space and "container" for whatever you need to bring up. This is accomplished by building a relationship based on respect and caring. Together, we will form an alliance to provide an environment where you can feel comfortable talking about your challenges while discovering and building on your strengths. I use an empathic, holistic, and collaborative approach with a multitude of interventions tailored to your specific needs, including but not limited to, guided journeying and relaxation techniques; motivational interviewing; art therapy; dream analysis; mother wound and father wound work; and more. I believe exploring one’s family history, including the ancestral lineage where that seems appropriate, can shed light on old patterns that may need to be shifted or left behind. My training and experience include extensive work with foster children and youth, adults and children with PTSD and other anxiety and depressive disorders, as well as active duty and retired military individuals, families, and couples. I believe we are emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual beings. As Shakespeare’s Hamlet expressed, "There are more things in Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy." My gifts as an artist and writer bring a perspective to the work I do that gives room for the metaphorical and subconscious to arise and allows for deeper insights and healing. I look forward to speaking with you soon.
