My Approach to Helping
My approach is positive and I want to accentuate your strengths and abilities and help you see results over a short term of counseling, usually 3-6 sessions. I treat couples and families as well as individuals with emotional or behavioral struggles with issues like trauma, anxiety, depression. I have a special focus on addictions and substance abuse and have directed and supervised an outpatient addiction recovery program at Turning Point Counseling and Rehab Center for over 22 years and have 26 years of personal sobriety. I see many people with addiction or alcoholism concerns. I have been a clinical hypnotherapist for over 19 years. Hypnosis is often helpful to relieve past traumas, but I believe it is not necessary to drag people through painful past experiences to effect beneficial change in the present. Of course, the use of hypnosis is entirely at the discretion of each client.
More Info About My Practice
We provide both intensive and supportive outpatient programs as a small group, private, and intimate experience. It is custom tailored to the needs of each client. We can help if there are legal issues involved and work with the court/probation system. The program includes skills and tools needed to stay sober and deal with life stresses, emotions, and relapse triggers. We focus also on the family issues involved with a weekly family group and address trust issues, communication, enabling, and how to navigate through a loved one's substance abuse problem.
Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
I have successfully treated addiction/substance abuse issues for over 25 years. With my own 28 years of personal sobriety to give me a foundation, I have a deep individual understanding of the addiction process. Our intensive outpatient program is 10 hours per week for eight weeks and combines the most effective approaches available in the field to promote successful sobriety. Our staff are all fully licensed LPC therapists or LPC Interns. The program includes peer groups and family groups plus an individual/family session each week, which is unusual for outpatient programs. We address relapse prevention, trust issues, honesty, 12-step principles, enabling/codependency, consequences, relationship building, marriage and family issues, anger management, and effective communication. We individualize our approach to address each individual situation and provide random drug testing and ongoing free weekly aftercare for graduates. Call or email for more information.
