What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist

What I love about being a psychotherapist is that I get to watch people transform themselves and their lives. Sometimes I meet them in a stage of change where the goal is just to get by. Other times I get to see an entire metamorphosis. I get to join them in their most difficult times. They trust me with something that is so personal and valuable, their selves and their wounds, that it is truly an honor for me to be able to help them heal and move on. I get to see them laugh, smile, cry, stumble, and win. My job is truly my passion and I feel so lucky that I can practice what I love.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

I'm flawed just like anyone else. Let's put it this way: I lived in Vegas during my 20's...'nuf said. But joking aside, I believe that my own struggles have made me a better therapist because I can really relate and empathize. I have been through a few transformations myself and I think it really shines through in session in the way that I reflect deeper meaning, in how I connect and build rapport, in the metaphors I use to describe people's problems, and in the different perspectives I offer. Plus, I'm not afraid to use humor in counseling. It allows people to open up more and of course, this really allows me to get to the crux of the problem
