My Approach to Helping
I offer an authentic, warm and non-judgmental approach when working with clients. I work with women, children, and adolescents. I do both therapy and medication management. It is an honor to be apart of your journey as you transition through the challenges life places in front of you. I believe everyone can benefit from therapy. I work with each client to meet your needs. We discuss what you want to accomplish and develop a roadmap to accomplish your goals. I think of it as a sailboat and you are the person steering the boat and I am the sail. This is all about you and what you want. If you have a therapist, I will work closely with the therapist as I manage your medications. Whether doing medication management, therapy, or both, I will help you find ways to self-reflect and grow. I don\'t underestimate the relationship that develops between the provider and client. It is that therapeutic relationship that can help you change and grow as you reflect on your life choices. Therapy can have a powerful impact on your life - both bad and good therapy. I am proud that you have chosen me to be a part of your journey.
I work with children and adolescents with ADHD, oppositional defiant disorder, PTSD, trauma, self-injurious behavior, and anxiety. I work with schools to help develop an IEP or 504 that best meets your child\'s needs. I work with women who have PTSD, depression, anxiety, ADHD, eating disorders, divorce, or adjustments that we all have to go through in life.
I have been a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse for over 20-years. I have been a PMHNP for almost 1-year. I am board-certified through the ANCC. I am licensed by the NCBON. I don\'t believe every provider is for everyone. If you meet with me and would like a referral to another provider, I work with a team of professionals with years of experience to refer you to as needed.
I can be reached at Robin@durhampsychiatricservices.com. I have a website at durhampsychiatricservices.com where you can learn even more about me. I accept most major insurance and fee-for-service for those who do not want to file with their insurance.
My long-term goal is to break the stigma of mental illness. I want individuals to view mental health as a disease process like cancer or heart disease. You will hear me say this over and over again. There is no shame in having a mental illness and seeking help. This stigma is a hurdle we need to overcome together.
My biggest assist is I am approachable and reachable. Crisis does not just occur once a week. I also know my limitations. If I do not think I am the best provider for you, I will help you find someone who can help you.
