My Approach to Helping

I believe that we all encounter stressors and obstacles that prevent us from finding growth, happiness, and meaning. My goal in treatment is to help my clients find ways to overcome and develop through these experiences. In my approach, the client holds the knowledge and motivation to make the desired changes in one’s life, while the therapist is charged with helping the client find them.

As a clinician, I integrate a variety of techniques, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Relational, and Multicultural approaches to meet client needs. I believe that the relationship between the client and therapist is most crucial to effective therapy.

In order to achieve a strong professional relationship, I focus on creating a safe, growth promoting environment in therapy. Within this emphasis, I recognize the importance of identity, culture, and client experiences as being crucial to understanding a client’s life, struggles, and strengths.

More Info About My Practice

One of my unique areas of focus involves the exploration of how society, culture, and politics affect our mental health. I believe that good therapy recognizes the roles of politics, oppression, and privilege. I have training in exploring how to integrate ways to find ways to be active and agentic in the socio-political spheres in which we operate, while learning to accept that we are not solely responsible for making positive change in these systems. I believe that finding this balance simultaneously helps the individual's mental health improve while making meaningful, positive changes in our society.

I also offer therapy during the 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm hours for clients who are unable to engage in therapy during typical workday hours.
