No, you are not broken. You are not the problem. You are already working to improve your situation by searching for assistance. That is how I view the service of therapy. Your therapist functions as a tool you use to improve your approach to solving problems.
I have been employed at a local inpatient mental health facility for over 25 years. I have had the opportunity to provide service to individuals from all walks of life with all kinds of difficulties.
Elsewhere on this page, you will see what I do and how I do it. It will look like many other therapists' descriptions. Fortunately, research tells us, the connection you make with your therapist is equal to or even more important, than the approach he/she prefers. So, this proposes, you are not looking for the best theory, you are looking for the best fit. I believe your best therapist is the one that sees you, not your problem(s), and works with what you bring to the work you are both doing.

Though it may sound like a cliche, I usually find things more enhancing when they are found outside the box. Trying to put square pegs through round holes and vice versa, can be painful. Looking for new ways to solve old problems can bring hope and growth. Therapy can be the compass and the safety net one needs to explore new territory.
I do hope you decide to follow through on this search and find the tool that works for you.

More Info About My Practice

I have continued to pursue college-level coursework throughout my years in providing mental health counseling. I began as a Student Affairs counselor, moved into community-based services, and have worked in hospital settings providing both long-term and short-term therapy.
I read, watch, and listen to new information that attempts to keep up with trends in lifestyles and difficulties, as well as new approaches to old problems.
You are not alone. This search you are on will lead where you are heading, if you stay on this path you have begun.
Best wishes to you.
