My Approach to Helping
Do you feel stuck, repeating nonproductive patterns, or perhaps afraid or incapable of movement at all? I see you as a unique individual, with everything you need to create more harmony, joy and balance in your life. Together we will work to access those parts of you which are sleeping, hiding, or working less efficiently or effectively than they might, due to burdens or outdated beliefs. Our work could be identifying and implementing practical strategies for immediate situations, or we may work to bring acceptance and compassion to parts that carry old wounds, allowing space for more joy.
I strive to meet each person where they are, and help you reach the goals you bring to our sessions. This collaborative relationship between client and therapist is paramount, so creating a space of safety and trust is always priority one. I look forward to supporting you on your path.
More Info About My Practice
My preferred therapeutic orientation is the Internal Family Systems model. It is evidence-based, intuitive and non-pathologizing, working to tap the energy and wisdom of your own Higher Self. I also have training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, and other modes, using what seems most appropriate for desired outcomes.
I do not accept insurance, electing to be paid by cash or check. My decision not to file insurance is based on two points. First is the time and complexity of dealing with the ever-changing insurance system itself. The second is of more importance to me. Insurance plans pay expenses for pathological issues. To file an insurance claim, a person is seen for a brief period of time, and then given a diagnosis of some array of symptoms that describe a pathological condition. This diagnosis becomes a part of their permanent medical record, with potential ramifications in the future. I prefer to function outside that system, seeing instead a person who is doing the best they can, with parts that could use support to work more efficiently and effectively.
Should you choose to file your expenses with your insurance company directly, I will be happy to cooperate with an invoice, and will include a diagnosis.
My Role as a Therapist
My role is to assist you in discovering what works best for you - to listen, help identify and clarify your struggle, your strengths, your roadblocks and your resources, and to help access your own innate inner wisdom to bring you to a place of greater life satisfaction and fulfillment. I don't have the answers for you - you do. Together we will discover them.
Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist
The relationship dynamic between therapist and client is perhaps the most important determinant of a positive experience in therapy. Experiencing a sense of safety and trust is vital to creating a space in which you feel comfortable bringing all of yourself to the table. I keep that uppermost in mind, working to build a strong and secure container in which our work together will take place. Meeting a client where they are, with nonjudgement and compassion, is my initial goal.
