Traveling through life is something I consider the ultimate journey. When we are fully present in each moment, our experiences have a richness that is worth understanding and making meaning of. This has been the foundation of my work in the field of counseling and psychology for the past 7 years I have been practicing. In my clinical and private work, I have watched people face their fears bravely and delving into understanding how they "arrived" where they are now along with working to learn how to make their lives better. For each person, this is a unique place; quality of life and living is what I strive to guide my clients towards. Always in a safe and accepting environment.

By fully learning and understanding each person's individual life story, our work together is always collaborative and in an effort to meet the goals developed early on in treatment. In my role as a guide, I strive to give my best to each client with the understanding they are doing the best they can in an effort towards improving. Through balancing acceptance and change; loving and firm; collaboration and independence, I see our work together as an experience to become more whole as well as to help individuals improve their functioning.

In order to achieve this environment, I bring a background of skills from Western psychological theories and interventions as well as Eastern philosophical concepts and practices such as mindfulness and radical acceptance. How this unfolds with each client is different as each of us brings something different to the therapeutic encounter. I consider it a privilege to be in this profession where my role is to help by bringing caring, support, and acceptance balanced by professionally strong academic training and experience to each of my clients.

More Info About My Practice

In my practice, I often utilize mindfulness techniques along with Western psychological interventions. As a mindfulness practitioner, I have found these strategies useful in today's world where we are often overwhelmed by technology and over-scheduled lives. As our work is collaborative, how this is applied is very individualized. Often, the simple "skills for living," have either been forgotten or not learned and we might spend time focusing on learning and/or reviewing these. Improving the quality of one's life is a journey worth taking. I encourage everyone to consider experiencing the therapeutic encounter as it is a relationship unique to all others.

My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy

As I view life as a journey where understanding and making meaning of what has come before, what is happening now and where one may go towards, the therapeutic encounter is a place where this can occur. Psychotherapy, in my view, exists to improve the quality of life of those that decide the time to know oneself is NOW. This is a relationship and space where with a qualified professional, one can safely come close to present realities, developing skills necessary to face sometime painful pasts safely and effectively while moving with self-respect and strength towards a better future. Because the future is created in the present moment, spending time with "oneself" in a space created for such learning and investigation is an important and, I believe, necessary path toward improving the quality of one's life.

My Role as a Therapist

In my role as a therapist, I am a guide, a partner, a collaborator during the process of helping clients understand where they are now, how they arrived and to consider where they want to move towards. As such, there may be times that painful truths must be walked toward, gently, yet approached as part of the growth process. Part of what makes this a beautifully unique relationship will be the working with transparency and authenticity on my part as well as encouraging the same with you. Whether facing everyday questions and issues or larger, deeper questions, I am in this wholly and am here to support you throughout this journey.
