My Approach to Helping
The decision to begin work with a therapist can be uncomfortable. Something of great value to me as a clinician is the opportunity to welcome a client into the experience of therapy; To build positive rapport with kindness, acceptance, curiosity, and validation.
I have been privileged to work as a mental health professional, with diverse populations in different clinical settings since 2011. I have an extensive background working with adults of all ages in treatment for chemical dependency and issues with mental health. I also have significant experience in therapeutic work with children, adolescents, and young adults. I believe in and consistently utilize a humanistic, person-centered approach to fully join with, and support each client in process of their individual story. I utilize a cognitive behavioral approach to assist my clients in overall ‘connection with’ empowered and authentic thought, insight to motivate personal change. Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is a modality I use frequently to assist clients in the practice of ‘mindfulness’, effective management of difficult emotion, coping with distress, and establishment/nurture of healthy personal relationships. Because mindful breath-work can be so beneficial, I often include guided exercises in session to assist with calm, clarity, and focus. Through application of different DBT skills I believe an individual has the potential to achieve greater connection with self as an emotional, behavioral resource.
I truly honor the time I have to interact with my clients and place great effort on the provision of a safe space for a productive process and skill-building. I’ll look forward to talking with you.
