My Approach to Helping
I believe that inside all of us there is a part that is unharmable. I believe that part of us holds the answers to all of life's problems and is where solutions for your healing can be found. I would love to help you reconnect to that part again and guide you to lifelong healing. My approach is person-centered, non-judgmental, empathetic, and strength-based. The goal of treatment is for you to gain the strength to move forward and feel the authentic power that comes from feeling fully connected and confident within yourself.
In therapy, I believe my job is to guide you along the healing process and support you in identifying strategies that in the past have helped you cope with life's troubles, but no longer serve you. These maladaptive coping strategies are simply misdirected attempts to self-soothe and self-regulate and I can help you learn new and sustainable forms of coping. I can also help if you have developed the strategy of self-medicating with substance abuse or other types of addictive behaviors. I can easily guide you in discovering why the addictive behavior was developed and help you start the steps of healing and recovery.
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and my expertise is in trauma and addiction. I have extensive training and experience in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, person-centered, and solutions-focused therapy.
