My name is Rachel and I have been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the South Suburbs of Chicago since February 2014. My passion for working with individuals can be found starting where you are; I believe therapy is an ongoing process built on a solid, trusting relationship between you and me. This process includes us working together to discover what your best-self looks like and me empowering you to reach your goals of where you hope to be! Your journey to your best-self may not have a straight-forward trajectory, but I will do my best to be there to support you along the way. Please visit my website and/or give me a call for additional information on how best I can serve your current needs.

More Info About My Practice

Social Work training often includes taking a strengths-based perspective when working with folks; and this is something I integrate into my daily practice as a supervisor, employee, and clinician. I believe in beginning where we already have a level of proficiency, and find opportunities to grow from there. If you are ready to make a change from life as you know it to discover more about your best-self, I look forward to speaking with you soon!

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I have extensive experience working with older adults, specifically related to health concerns, grief, and loss (including loss of independence, physical and cognitive function, etc.). I also have experience working with adults facing various life transitions, including symptoms of anxiety, depression, and stress. I have also been providing clinical supervision hours for other mental health professionals looking to obtain higher licensure since 2015. I enjoy being in the role to facilitate both personal and professional growth for my clients!

My Role as a Therapist

I view my role as being your partner in therapy; my goal is to walk with you and support you on your journey as best I can. In my service contract, I believe each of us have responsibilities to uphold as both the client and as the therapist. Generally speaking, I promise to follow the Social Work Code of Ethics, to do my best to work with you within my scope of knowledge and discuss appropriate referrals or next steps if our therapeutic relationship no longer seems to be effective for either of us. As a therapist, I know that my "style" will not be a good fit for everyone who comes to see me; I want to build that trust with you, from the first time we speak, that you can feel comfortable addressing any concerns you have with me. The prospect of entering into a therapeutic relationship can leave you feeling emotionally vulnerable, and I want to do what I can to realistically alleviate some of those feelings for you.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

Most of us who became helping professionals tend to have our own struggles which make us who we are today; I am confident that where I am now in my career is a direct result of my past experiences, both personal and professional. My time "growing up" as a social worker was a roller coaster- I learned a lot about myself, including some key takeaways from which I was able to grow and I also identified a number of things I felt were missing and would have possibly made my journey smoother. I have also been the client within a therapeutic relationship, and am intimately aware of the feelings associated with talking with a stranger about some of my most private thoughts and feelings. Please know that no therapist you see is an infallible superhero...we all have our junk. You are ultimately in control of your outcomes in therapy, and you want to work with someone who is able to be attuned to your unique needs. Negative therapy experiences happen, and I believe most times it is because something didn't fit quite right. I encourage you, if you are on the fence about pursuing another therapeutic relationship, a good fit for you is out there- it's time to be picky (and that's OK)!
