My Approach to Helping
I base my relationships with every couple and individual I work with on the certainty that when challenges occur, this means something better is trying to reveal itself. So rather than go down, it's the perfect time to give it our all. Constant growth is the key. We are capable of creating our own fulfillment, once we understand the system, believe in ourselves and are willing to do what it takes to get there. As a woman, counselor, wife and mother, I can only help you risk and trust the process of change to the extent that I am willing to do so myself. You can trust that when you have a true desire to change and begin to understand basic universal wisdom about life and relationships, changes that feel miraculous can and will happen. It can be scary to stop running from our pain, deal with the issues in our relationships, to become emotionally independent, to let go of our ego's grip—but I say with conviction that the effort and responsibility required to create true inner peace and fulfillment, it's a small price to pay.
A bit about my background: I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Doctorate in Counseling and Masters in Psychology, both from the University of Missouri. A Missouri Approved Counseling Supervisor, I have been working in private practice for 18 years - with adult men and women, couples, teens, mothers-daughters and groups. I specialize in relationship crisis and enrichment, anger management, overcoming fears and anxiety, self esteem, loss, spirituality (all possibilities lay within us), and finding your purpose. All with an eye toward empowering women, men and teens to heal and overcome, improve their relationships and tap into their given potential for unlimited happiness and achievement. I would like to think of myself as the "no more victim" doctor.
I have led short-term personal growth groups, long-term mindbody healing groups and have facilitated workshops for teens as well as parents of teens. Seminars ranging from stress to forgiveness, inner peace to thriving, from listening skills to self esteem are among my favorites. In addition to considering myself a full-time student of ancient wisdom, I have expertise in career guidance, anxiety, forgiveness, self-esteem and actualization, guided imagery, meditation, writingjournal therapy, and supervision for counselors-in-training. I worked as an Adjunct Associate Professor at the UM-St. Louis Graduate Counseling Program for 6 years, teaching Theories of Counseling, Group Counseling, and Guided Practicum. I have published articles and a book chapter in the field of CounselingPsychology. I have poems and stories published in magazines and anthologies as well as two books of poetry: Where the River Runs Wild and Come With Me.
Finding a path that you can claim as your own - and that you love - is worth more than gold. Together, it is my privilege to help you heal and find the path that is yours!
