My Approach to Helping
Trouble overcoming distressing emotions, anxiety, painful memories, losses or current stressors? I believe that anyone can get stuck at times and find they need help overcoming obstacles and reducing their emotional distress. I view the counseling relationship as a partnership and seek to create a relationship that is based on trust, respect, and compassion as I know that it is this relationship that is the most important factor in whether you achieve the outcomes your desire. In my 20 years of experience, I have learned that it is helpful to take a "big picture" approach in considering how your past experiences might be contributing to your current issues but I always respect your right to choose what you wish to work on in your treatment and to set your own goals. I draw from a variety of therapeutic approaches to individualize your treatment and these may include EMDR, trauma-focused therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based therapy, psychodynamic therapy and emotionally focused therapy.
Reaching out for help is a sign of strength and therapy can help you overcome your obstacles, reduce your emotional distress, heal from your past, clarify your decision making or help you to learn things you might not have been taught in the past.
