My Approach to Helping
You've likely arrived at this page because you're feeling stressed, depressed, worried, lost, out of control, or just plain tired of being sick. Without a doubt, it takes strength and courage to reach out to someone for help. And this may just be the hardest part...considering trusting someone to help you get back on track. I'd like to help you achieve your goals and live a healthier, fuller, and more vibrant life. And while it may be a bit scary to reach out to someone, you are certainly worth it. You are.
I'm a licensed clinical psychologist with special training in health psychology. In other words, I'm passionate about helping individuals promote physical health by focusing on their emotional health and vice versa. My goal is to promote personal growth, change, and healing through careful listening, compassionate support, and recognition of your unique strengths and values. My approach is down-to-earth, genuine, positive, enthusiastic, and non-judgmental.
Finding a good fit between you and your therapist is so important to your success! I encourage you to give me a call to see whether my approach is the right fit for you. I'm looking forward to speaking with you.
More Info About My Practice
I have been providing therapy professionally since 2004. I have considerable experience working with individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship issues, professional concerns, insomnia, chronic diseases (e.g., heart disease, diabetes, cancer, HIV, chronic pain), and aging (e.g., dementia, loss of function). In our sessions, we will work together to identify and overcome unhelpful thoughts and behaviors that are causing you emotional and/or physical distress. I have worked with diverse people of all ages throughout my career but have the most experience with teens, adults (young and old), and families.
Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed
Going to therapy certainly does not mean you are weak in any way. In fact, quite the opposite. Knowing that you need help means you have the capacity to reach out. We all need help sometimes. You already have many strengths, but they're either not working, or you're unable to access them. Maybe you feel overwhelmed. Through our work together, I'll help you identify your values and strengths, then build upon them, and harness them to achieve your desired goals.
The Duration and Frequency of Therapy
Most people experience immediate relief in therapy because their newfound sense of control offers them hope. This then helps them continue working. Therapy can last just a few sessions for simple issues, or be longer term (6 sessions or more) for more complex concerns.
Every client is unique. Most clients meet weekly at first, then space sessions out further as they progress. I offer therapy for the shortest period necessary to offer relief from the issues that brought you to therapy.
