My Approach to Helping
Individuals come to me with feelings of depression and anxiety, relationship concerns, overwhelming stress, and difficult life transitions. We work together to clarify and mentally organize issues, understand the meaning and emotional impact of our circumstances, deepen insight, accept challenges, and use personal strengths to enact meaningful change. I am an interactive therapist who brings experience, pragmatism, intuition and deep empathy to therapy, and I draw on a variety of therapeutic methods.
Couples approach me asking for help with communication, reducing conflict, deepening connection, and adjusting to changes affecting their relationship like moving, having a baby, or starting a new job. We work together toward identifying negative patterns of interaction, uncovering buried emotion, creating open communication, and inviting vulnerable and meaningful moments into the relationship. I have advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples and have studied the Gottman Method. I enjoy working with couples and feel it is an honor to do so.
More Info About My Practice
After working in community mental health, my private practice was originally launched with a counseling colleague who is also a friend. We began by giving our practice a name, and we wanted the name to represent what we actually do, and after many ideas, we finally landed on PRACTICE, because no other word sums it up better. We practice in the counseling field, our business is a health-related practice, when we are with clients in the office, we are enacting the practice of mental health counseling, and since we can never get "life" perfect, but seem to keep trying, aren't we all in an ongoing state of practicing? So, PRACTICE PLLC was born in West Seattle.
Since then, my partner and I have gone through the paperwork to create individual private practices, but we still share an office and consider ourselves friends, and we continue to practice doing our very best for the people who honor us by choosing to do therapy with us. I want to thank you in advance for choosing me as your therapist; I want to keep practicing, and I'm thinking you do too.
