My Approach to Helping
People seek therapy when life becomes unmanageable, when they can no longer cope on their own, and solutions that used to work don't seem to do the trick any more. It is natural to want relief from pain and suffering, and often just making an appointment or having an initial consultation will help. I believe it is important to help people I work with feel better, but it is equally important to explore the life events and relational patterns that led to the present moment. With time, more fulfilling life trajectories become visible and possible.
Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
Therapy can be a "lab experience" where, together, we observe and examine the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that hinder you outside of the therapy room.
The therapeutic alliance is vital to my way of working. I strive to create an environment of trust and confidence for those who seek my help. I will listen with care, patience, openness, and without judgment. While relieving pain and easing suffering are important, I believe that therapy is most productive when we work together to understand what isn't working in your life and to find more adaptive ways for you to be in your world.
