My Approach to Helping

Your success and happiness depend largely on your ability to communicate. When you communicate effectively, you can make and keep friends, excel at work, resolve conflicts at home and on the job, and enjoy satisfying intimate relationships.

But communication skills are not innate. They need to be learned, practiced, and mastered.
I use a wide variety of approaches. I tend to focus on why you are coming in for therapy and help you understand how to problem solve, and communicate your needs. I use solution-focused techniques as well as CBT and other integrative techniques.

Therapy is not easy and I am not the type of therapist that listens, week after week after week. I will push you, and I will provide you with feedback based off of your dialogue. Most of the time we are looking at better ways to communicate so that you can have a better job, friends, partner, family or overall communicating without feeling burdened.

If you are ready to strap on your gloves and get into the ring I will coach you, your marriage, your family, your children, or whatever issue(s) you are facing and help you break down how to get what you want in life.

Counselors do NOT make decisions. We base your treatment off what you need and motivate you for success, Think of therapy similar to a personal coach but one that is helping you improve your mental clarity. Counseling is related to physical therapy at first things might be sore and painful to get moving but once you have stretched and loosened up progression begins. Counseling can be painful we sometimes dig up old stuff and look at how to change, accept and heal it. Physical therapy uses similar approaches. Counseling is hard. It is a lifestyle change. It is not a fad diet. If you are looking to be coached give Step By Step a call. We will not focus on a diagnosis except to understand the need for services and how to strengthen your weak areas.

Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist

There are some individuals that are looking to go in weekly and talk about their life and not actually try to change. Those type of counselors is usually psychoanalytical. Counselors who use behavioral techniques are usually going to assign homework and help guide you on a path to meet your goals. Therapy is an art and finding the person you gel with like your musical preferences is important. Never feel bad about not returning after the 2nd session. I tell people to at least give the person two tries. The first session usually consists of a lot of paperwork and information gathering,
