My Approach to Helping
I provide a safe space for teens, young adults, and families to understand and process, and learn more about what is getting in the way of thriving. We work together to build awareness of the patterns, beliefs, and behaviors that are interfering with emotional and relational health. Cultural humility is important in my work and I honor the unique experiences of each individual. I believe therapy should and can be a fun experience and incorporate humor and play in the work I do with clients.
Mental Health affects all aspects of our life and I have extensive experience in school settings and can help parents navigate the educational system to best support their adolescent. I work to help my clients find relief from complex trauma and mental health concerns that may be impacting their social-emotional health and development. I utilize Gestalt Therapy, mindfulness, and approaches such as eye movement desensitization reprocessing (EMDR), trauma resiliency model (TRM), and trust based relational intervention (TBRI).
More Info About My Practice
I have spent over 15 years working in mental health, predominantly with children, adolescents, and families. I spent the last 14 years serving and overseeing a mental health treatment program for students in alternative education settings. My years serving adolescents, often struggling with substance abuse, and involved in the juvenile justice system, have given me a greater perspective and sensitivity of systemic oppression on marginalized groups, and have shaped the framework and lens of cultural humility and empathy from which I operate. I have extensive training and experience working in the areas of stress and trauma, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, and behavioral concerns, as well as experience in adoption and attachment. I am trained in the Violet Oaklander Model of child and adolescent therapy and believe play, creativity, and fun are important aspects of healing.
What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist
One of my greatest joys is working with teenagers and young adults as they journey through development and find out who they are meant to be. Your healing is important to me and we will work collaboratively to find out what patterns, beliefs or behaviors are getting in the way of you thriving. Therapy can be an incredibly healing experience but it isn't always easy. We will work at the pace that feels comfortable to you keeping in mind the importance of your individual needs and goals. I would love an opportunity to speak with you over the phone. I invite you to join me at Brave Spaces Therapy to start your journey today because growth requires courage and vulnerability.
