Dual Board Certified as Adult Gerontology Primary Care nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric nurse Practitioner with over 16 years of combined work experience, and have acquired an extensive background in telepsychiatry, inpatient, and outpatient mental health over the last 5 years. I discuss and elaborate on both pharmacotherapeutic and psychotherapeutic interventions as treatment modalities so that we can both appreciate the decisions and choices we make using the aforementioned set of knowledge and values.
I may not prescribe medication after the initial assessment, but I may strongly encourage THE patient to pursue psychotherapy regularly with a licensed professional counselor in addition to what I can provide here. I emphasized that medications are only a piece of the puzzle regarding patient reaching their potential for optimal mental health and psychosocial quality of life.
Through my experiences, extensive education, and clinical training, I have witnessed the importance of valuing each person's expectations and views regarding psychiatric medication treatment. I always include clients in medication.
