My Approach to Helping
I vividly remember the first time I used and the first time I reached out to a therapist. I was filled with despair, intense fear, shame, and insecurity but had no consciousness of these emotions. I was so disconnected from my body and my spirit. My thoughts were racing and I was stuck in patterns of self-sabotage and harmful coping mechanisms. It took everything out of me to make eye contact with another person as I began to speak about these patterns. I will never forget the compassion I experienced from my first therapist as she held sacred space for me to begin this process. I hold this memory as a strong guide in my work on the other end of the couch working as a clinician today.
My clinical work is trauma-focused, specifically working with those who are experiencing mental health symptoms associated with exposure to childhood trauma, sexual abuse, domestic violence, narcissistic abuse, and traumatic loss. My work as a clinician also centers around helping those who are experiencing issues related to anxiety, depression, divorce, substance abuse, sexual orientation, and gender identity. I strive to maintain compassion, understanding, and safety while utilizing trauma-focused therapy, cognitive processing therapy, and psychodynamic modalities of treatment,
I hope you decide to take this first step towards self-awareness.
