My Approach to Helping
Do you find yourself frequently worried or anxious? Are you going through a major change (i.e. a break-up, divorce, new job, loss) that is causing increased stress or increased emotions? As a psychologist, my goal is to provide a comfortable and non-judgmental space for you to express your concerns so we can collaboratively work towards solutions. My clients have seen improvements in their confidence, relationships, and ability to manage anxiety and stress.
As a therapist, I want to help you better understand your emotions and find new ways to manage distress and difficult situations. So many of my clients tell me they feel weak when coming to therapy. However, I personally think it takes a great deal of strength to ask for help. My goal is to help you better use your inner strength (or find it when it feels like it's missing) so that you'll be better equipped to handle challenges throughout your life.
I use an individual approach to help you with your concerns. Throughout therapy, I provide encouragement and objective feedback. I may suggest looking at situations from other perspectives, finding new ways to cope with your situation, or exploring how your current behaviors are or are not in line with your values and goals. Clients have described me as kind, genuine, encouraging, honest, and caring. I strive to provide compassionate, direct and honest feedback in our work.
More Info About My Practice
I provide services at my office near downtown St. Petersburg. I also provide counseling online to FL residents for those who may not be in Tampa Bay area or are interested in receiving telehealth services. Online therapy is convenient, effective, and confidential. I meet with my clients on a secure and HIPAA compliant platform (similar to Skype or FaceTime). Paperwork, payment, and our appointments all happen online.
The first step of working together is to call me for a complimentary phone consultation. During this call we can decide together if I am the right therapist to help you. If not, I will provide referrals to help you find the best possible care.
Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
I have worked for 6+ years in university counseling centers. I have expertise in providing therapy to adults who are struggling with anxiety, adjustment, stress, ADHD, academiccareer concerns, relationship difficulties, and a variety of other concerns. Although I have worked primarily with younger adults I have experience working with adults of all ages. If your specific concern is not listed, don't hesitate to call for a consultation.
On the Fence About Going to Therapy?
I don't blame you. I've been there. Therapy can be intimidating and just plain awkward. However, I frequently hear from clients that they feel relieved to be able to discuss their issues with someone who isn't involved in their daily life. Talking to friends and family is great, but a professional can give you more objective feedback to help you reach your goals.
A myth of therapy is that you have to be "crazy" or at rock bottom to need therapy. This isn't true. I think therapy can be helpful in a proactive way. Although some people might "need" therapy, I think most people probably could just benefit from having a comfortable space to explore their concerns and find ways to better handle challenges.
