My Approach to Helping
I practice body-mind psychotherapy and I am here to help you re-establish your sense of wholeness and connection, as you navigate the obstacles in your life. I will provide you the support needed to find satisfying resolutions to your most complex binds and live by your truth and passion. It takes a lot to reach out for support and to slow down enough to settle the mind. Learning to understand and tap into the resource of your body will be forever rewarding. It is my privilege to provide safe space, a witnessing presence, encouragement and support on the pathway to your blossoming health!
More Info About My Practice
Whether you are healing from past trauma, have habits that seem to thwart your success, or you tend to end up in a bind and don't even know why, I can help you find more peace of mind, insight and support for a more satisfying life. Coming into a conscious relationship with your body and mind means stepping into empowerment and aliveness. I invite curiosity for your body sensations that are connected with your thoughts and emotions. This process brings you into present time, and gives more space for whatever you are dealing with to be there with less reactivity. It is a process which includes shifting states of mind as a tool for resiliency. Wherever health is lacking and imbalance is prevalent in our lives, there is some level of fixation, a lack of movement. With appreciation for the inherent wisdom of these areas of stuckness, and acknowledgment for the purpose that was served, we will seek to support an organic reorganization at the pace of the body and mind for lasting change.
Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
Self regulation is the ability to respond and adapt to the situations in life with a degree of flexibility and presence in thoughts, emotions and behaviors. Resiliency and adaptability is deeply imbedded in the autonomic nervous system (ANS). We know more about this now than ever before. It is speculated that approximately 80% of all health conditions are nervous system related. Without taking the time to reset on a nervous system level, it becomes more and more commonplace to move through life with a certain level of dis-regulation and distress without knowing why or what to do about it. The circumstances surrounding trauma and our general cultural attitudes do not often support the full completion and reset needed for the ANS to function as effectively as it is designed to do. We end up with layers of activation and "unfinished business" which has not had a chance to discharge and reset. The good news is that the ANS can be reset to its natural range of function with a little dedication and TLC. In therapy sessions we work directly with the body and mind to bring balance and resiliency back to the ANS and I teach effective exercises empowering my clients to practice self regulation in daily life.
On the Fence About Going to Therapy?
Therapy is one way of choosing to get the support you need as you navigate the complexities of your life. In a culture which does not value self-care and where getting support is often seen as a flaw or a weakness, it can be hard to validate spending the time and money on yourself! Everyone has different degrees and kinds of support in their lives, and only you can tell if therapy is what you need. What you will get out of therapy will also depend upon what your intentions are and the type of therapy you choose. However, learning to receive support and take better care of your self, your body and your mind, will nourish you deeply from the inside out like watering a withering plant. We are group minded and relational beings, no matter how quiet and reserved, and finding pathways to connection matters. It is said that happiness is the feeling we get when we are aware of ourselves growing. Therapy is a wonderful way to embark on the adventure of getting more out of life:-)
