My Approach to Helping

Are you stuck in a cycle of stress & reactivity that negatively impacts your body, thoughts, feelings & relationships? If you are ready to break the cycle, learn deep techniques to respond to stress skillfully & move forward to live a life consistent with your values, then I would love to work with you.
I combine the power of both evidence-based therapy with my specialty of mindfulness-based biofeedback to treat the physiological, cognitive, behavioral, emotional, and relational sources of your suffering. I would describe my goal in my therapy as helping you increase your psychological flexibility so you can live a consistent, values-based life; biofeedback is a powerful technique that uses specialized equipment to show you how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors affect your physiology and how to learn psychophysiological balance.
I deeply appreciate the relationships I create with my clients and consider it a joy and honor to assist my clients in improving their lives.

More Info About My Practice

I'm an engaged therapist and can be directive and challenging when needed; in fact, many of my patients have come to me after trying several therapists who did not challenge them enough. My view is that therapy, especially when mixed with biofeedback, should create a sense of curiosity and awe about how we can work with our minds and bodies to live better.
My practice is strongly based in evidence and my experience working with a wide variety of people and settings ~ at the Department of Veterans Affairs, a safety-net hospital, community mental health settings, as a former Assistant Professor at the University of California at San Francisco and of course my private practice ~ gives me the ability address multiple problems from multiple perspectives.
Lastly, I have a strong background in working with immigrants and non-native English speakers as well as others from diverse walks of life.
