My Approach to Helping
It's not easy to share your problems with a total stranger. My part is to offer a supportive relationship by listening and responding with respect and compassion, bringing understanding and a fresh perspective. Once I understand the problems an individual or couple want to address, I help people to recognize and build on their strengths and learn skills to reach their goals. Learning and practicing effective ways to reduce stress, overwhelming feelings, and destructive interactions are some of these skills. As self-awareness and self-acceptance develop, people gain more access to strengths such as courage, confidence, and clarity.
I have a background in approaches that draw on the wisdom of the body, emotions, mind, spirit, and neuroscience. Some of these include: mindfulness, stress management and various therapies for improving relationships, communication skills, and emotional well-being,
In my work with couples, I focus on creating better connection and communication in ways that support and empower the couple's relationship. I have training in several methods of marital therapy.
