My Approach to Helping
Nancy J. Smith is a licensed clinical social worker who has been providing mental health services for 18 years to the eastern Wake County communities and surrounding counties. She earned a Bachelor of Social Work degree from NC State University in 2000, a Master of Social Work degree from East Carolina University in 2004, and is a long-standing member of the National Association of Social Workers. Nancy’s career found her as she returned to college as an older student to pursue a career in helping others. She has especially enjoyed empowering others to find their voice!
Nancy works with individuals and couples. Her approach to counseling is straightforward, meeting clients where they are with no judgment and a goal to collaborate with and support every client. She is considered a generalist, while utilizing cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). She does a lot of work on the child within and the family of origin. She can help you recognize your own strengths, pay attention to your thoughts, which in turn will change your behavior. Old patterns become new ones as you recognize your own potential. She works well with clients who struggle with codependency, narcissistic abuse, low self-esteem, trauma, relationship issues, domestic violence, pet grief, and, in the past, has practiced equine therapy. Sometimes, she describes herself as “the therapist you didn’t know that you needed.” She serves clients located in North Carolina and South Carolina!
