As a result of my action based counseling, individuals move past being stuck, learn to stop the constant stream of negative self-talk and simply feel better about themselves and their lives. While I work with adolescents, adults and the elderly on a variety of issues and concerns, I have a particular interest in working with "the other woman"-- helping them to learn to forgive themselves and to let go of guilt and shame.

I'm looking for individuals who are ready to break free from unhealthy thoughts and behavior patterns and to reclaim their lives and self-worth.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

There is a saying that pain wakes you up to your truest self and that my friend is an understatement! There is nothing more humbling than getting your a$$ kicked by life, struggling in isolation intent on going it alone while silently suffering, trying to quiet that inner critic telling you that you're not good enough.

And you know why this happens to even the best of us? Perhaps out of fear, embarrassment or shame. Because reaching out requires being vulnerable and vulnerability is not only scary but risky; we might get judged, criticized, ridiculed, or rejected. I get it, I've been there. Prolonged grief was the catalyst for my clinical depression which completely derailed my life for almost 3 years. As clinicians we are taught not to self disclose but the truth is, we are all imperfect! I'm human, I struggle and I have pain just like everyone else; I've just gone to school, got a few tools and skills in my tool belt, practiced to learn the skills / techniques and put them into action.

So how exactly has this made me a better therapist? First, I realize that having knowledge of something never equates to the experience of it. My personal struggles helped me to fully appreciate and deeply respect the struggle that accompanies realizing that you need help, taking that first step, taking off the mask and facing your issues head on. Such courage and brave leaps of faith call me / challenge me to live up to them in my own life.

I'm not going to lie, dealing with our inner stuff is hard. There is no outside solution, no quick fix, no magic bullet. Inside of each of us there is wisdom about what feels right and what feels wrong if you are open to trusting those instincts and willing to be curious about who you really are and why you do what you do.

So, if you're in that place where your usual coping skills aren't working anymore and you're ready to move from a place of fear into courage and confidence, I'd love for you to give me call
