My Approach to Helping
There's another way.
The old ways aren't working so well anymore. Family and friends try their best to help you, and they do. But things don't seem to change. Inspirational posts on social media have a way of boosting your mood temporarily so that you share those posts with your friends. And it helps to get some validation for your feelings, for a few minutes, maybe for a day if you're lucky. We start to realize that our old ways of coping no longer have the same impact. Our stressors and burdens are piling up in a ways we didn't expect and our thoughts about how to make things better don't seem to move us in the direction we are looking for. Sometimes we need a little more help, a different perspective, a way back to ourselves.
This is an invitation to take care of yourself.
To give yourself the time and space that you need to see what's really there. And we do this in small steps, at a pace that's right for you. You'll see that when emotional suffering is met with love and compassion, it won't survive. It can't. And this is how we change. You can learn to let your feelings move through you without dragging you down. You can experience your life without being overwhelmed by it all. The old ways are in the past. And now there's another way.
