My Approach to Helping
"Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen." Brene Brown.
Life is messy but good therapy ends. Therapy looks different for everyone and should not last a lifetime. Everyone needs support at different times in their lives and whether you are grieving, feeling anxious/depressed, struggling in relationships, as a parent or living with cancer or illness- you can feel better and function better. My job is to join you and guide you in that process. My role as a therapist is to join you where you are and to guide you in your healing process through what situations or struggles you are currently experiencing.
My approach is largely based on joining children, parents, individuals and couples right where they are in the moment, and not requiring them to feel, look or act differently. From this point we will work together on what healing and wholehearted living looks like to you and decide on what your goals for treatment would be. It looks different for each person and it is not forever.
I offer 50 minute sessions for individuals and couples out of my Westport location. I also provide home based sessions when requested and needed.
In addition I offer three community based groups in addition to home-based team treatment that combines counseling, nutrition and personal training.
Why join a group?
Because there is nothing more powerful than the words, "Me too. I have been there." These words can shatter years of isolation and wondering if we are alone in our struggles, thoughts and feelings. Groups provide connection with others provide a space where you know you belong. Most people in groups do not consider themselves "a group person" but that it what makes them so meaningful. They are filled with normal people, who have normal struggles, who are nervous about sharing but are taking the risk to be vulnerable and in turn are rewarded with healing themselves and also finding connection and healing with others.
Why do you offer the option of home based support?
Home. It is where the heart is, there is no place like it, and it is where both happiness and heartache take place on a daily basis. It is both a safe haven and a battlefield. This can be especially true for parents and families. It is where our intentions collide with the reality of our choices. Traditionally counseling intentionally takes place outside the home. However, there are limits to the efficacy and effectiveness of this approach. Often insights discussed in an office setting are difficult to translate to your daily life and to your home.
That is why we would love to meet you there. Not in our house, but yours. We come to you, we sit with you and we make a plan that fits your life, your routine and who you are as a family, couple, or individual in need. We believe that our job is not to tell you what you -should- do when you leave our office and return home but to encounter you on your turf and on your terms, and see how we can work together for the change that you want to see.

GROUPS CURRENTLY OFFERED:
Parenting Through Crisis Group:
There is no secret to perfect parenting and often the most successful parents are the ones who share their struggles with others. Parents are welcome to join with other parents of children who are in emotional crisis. The goal of the group is for parents to say realize they are not alone in their struggle and to gain helpful tips in parenting children in crisis. There is an amazing sigh of relief when parents connect with others and they can say, "I thought it was just me but now I know I am not the only one going through this."
Women Daring Greatly Together Group:
"Loving ourselves through the process of owning our own story is the bravest thing we will ever do." Based on the work of Brene Brown this women's group will focus moving from our own areas of shame and self blaming behaviors to one filled with purpose and whole hearted living. Developing acceptance for ourselves comes through gaining empathy towards others and sharing our stories with other women.
HOME BASED SUPPORT:
Our home-based support includes wellness and life coaching, cancer recovery, families in medical crisis, eating disorders, and children and adolescents with behavioral challenges. Sessions are scheduled at a time that is convenient for you and your family. You don't need to worry and you don't need to "clean your house" before we come or entertain us as any sort of guest. We are there to join you and to experience real life, without judgment and make a plan that fits the reality of your life.

What I Say to People Concerned about the Therapy Process
I believe that without empathy very little trust can be built. As you take risks in sharing with me your experiences and emotions, I will join with your in your feelings and struggles and provide a foundation for you to move forward. You will not be left alone in your pain.
Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed
Two quotes by Brene Brown best respond to this question and are the foundations of my practice: "Imperfections are not inadequacies; they are reminders that we are all in this together." and "Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage. Truth and courage aren't always comfortable but they are never weakness."
