My Approach to Helping

I view therapy as an alliance, giving you the freedom to speak your emotional truth, and an opportunity to learn the skills to express it in healthy, adaptive and forward-moving ways. Above all, I value the therapeutic relationship, and feel it is the gateway for growth and transformation. Healing takes courage, and change requires risk. With support, empathy, encouragement and tools tailored to your specific needs, you can face your challenges with more confidence and strength, and create the life you truly want.

My counseling mission is to help others identify and lose the emotional weight that is holding them down and keeping them from what they want, so that they can feel happiness, freedom, relief, balance and self acceptance.

More Info About My Practice

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with 15 years of experience, across a variety of settings, in the field of mental health and wellness. I earned my B.A. in Clinical/Counseling Psychology from Moravian College, and my M.S. in Counseling Psychology from Chestnut Hill College.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

I refer to life's struggles and all forms of pain as emotional weight, and at one point in my life, I carried almost 100 excess pounds of it on my body. Our bodies have a way of "speaking" to us, and of getting our attention. This can manifest in many ways, such as illness, muscle tension, headaches, and physical weight - and the ways we cope aren't always best for us. I believe that emotional eating - a way to numb out - is often a response to emotional trauma, or to trauma in general. Learning how to love and accept yourself is the most effective way to begin the process of naturally losing weight, and it is an emotional journey to adapt to a new way of being, and to maintain it.

It can be a long and winding road to lose the emotional weight, and this is what so many don't understand, and the one component I feel is missing in diet/weight loss programs. This is why I am so passionate about utilizing my skills as a counselor to help people who are going through it. Whether you would like to lose 10 pounds or 100 - and even if your problems are showing up in other areas of your life, as opposed to on your hips - I would love to help you let go of whatever is weighing you down. When you are mindful, emotionally honest with yourself and others, and most importantly stop judging, shaming, and punishing yourself - making healthy choices, all around, actually does become natural, as opposed to work.
