My Approach to Helping
Hello and welcome. I am Melissa Hanson and I am a registered marriage and family therapist intern practicing in Brevard County, Florida. I specialize in working with adolescents, adults, families, and couples. I have experience working with clients struggling with relationship issues, substance abuse, anxiety, and trauma. Just as these struggles vary, so too does my experience working with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and solution focused (brief) therapy (SFBT). I have also benefited greatly from specialized focus in trauma education and extensive experience with substance abuse and addictions.
I believe that each individual is a part of a larger system made up of family and friends. It is within this system that individuals are influenced. I also believe counseling should be a collaborative process within both our therapeutic system and your family system. I will work to help you meet your therapeutic goals through proven theoretical approaches best suited for you, the client, as you bring your own unique experiences and goals. I will utilize various clinical techniques to bring about desired outcomes for each individual client, while also considering the larger family system to which each individual belongs. This is done in a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore a variety of topics.
Should you choose to work with me, we will start with safety and trust, and work toward your goals in a non-judgmental space. Treatment planning is tailored to your unique needs, and with the additional support our alliance brings, the hope is that you'll find symptom relief and empowerment long after treatment ends.
