My Approach to Helping
At some point in our lives, we may face challenges, overwhelming decisions to make or we just need an impartial person to help us process our experiences. These are just a few reasons why people seek therapy and I provide a supportive, non-judgmental and encouraging approach to helping others become better versions of themselves. My approach to therapy is collaborative and I encourage my clients to be active participants in therapy and be open to engaging in the process of change. I can offer new approaches to dealing with obstacles, different perspectives and I can impart different "tools" to manage your thoughts and emotions. My approach is eclectic but primarily humanistic meaning my aim is to help you develop a stronger and healthier sense of self and personal responsibility.
More Info About My Practice
I frequently utilize two evidenced-based practices often are Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Eye-Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), which means that they have been researched and therefore found to be effective.
Importance of the Client-Therapist Alliance
The therapeutic relationship between a client and therapist is considered to the best predictor of change in a client. What that means is that clients find therapy much more useful and effective if they have a therapist whom they trust as genuine, non-judgmental and can connect with. Therapy is a brave step so it makes sense to want to start the process with someone who appreciates that and goes at your speed. I highly value the relationships I have with my clients and want them to understand that the therapy session is not about me and if there is an approach they find that might be more useful to them, I am happy to adapt my approach to fit their needs.
