My Approach to Helping
Experiencing trauma can take away who you used to be, and who you want to be. In order to survive trauma, we cope the best way that we can. Some people numb their feelings by creating a life of perpetual busyness, some cope with food, others with alcohol or substances. Others might isolate because their experience interacting with the world has resulted in so much hurt. While we are surviving, we start to miss out on life. We lose contact with others and ourselves. We go through the motions of daily life without experiencing connection or joy. We may feel hopeless, angry, exhausted, and ashamed.
Still, hope remains. There is healing through trauma. During our work together, my hope is that you find yourself in a place of being more centered in the present, developing compassion for yourself, and rekindling creativity and joy.
I utilize a variety of tools to assist you to heal from trauma and create joy in your life, such as mindfulness, EMDR, and cognitive behavioral techniques. Through a client-centered, strengths-based approach, we build on your natural resiliency, as you create the vision for your life.
