You are dealing with something overwhelming and confusing. Perhaps, you feel scared and alone. You may feel like no one understands you or like you have failed in life. Or, it may be that you find yourself not experiencing much emotion at all or feeling as if you are living a life that is not fully yours. It is my hope that you will let me lend you a hand and help you move forward towards a better life.

It is emotionally difficult to take a close look at the parts of our inner world that we don't like. At the same time, these are often the very parts of us that yearn the most for our attention and care. As we slowly get to know the painful areas of our inner life from a place of compassion and curiosity, those areas will often relax and change. Work in therapy does pay off. Give me a call!

Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist

I love keeping up on research regarding what makes therapy effective. Here is an article I wrote to summarize the current research findings in therapy effectiveness.

My View on the Nature of 'Disorders'

I have never liked the word "disorder" applied to people's painful or uncomfortable internal experiences. It is a bit cold and distant - and, as such, not very helpful.

Unlike medical diseases and disorders, our distressing thoughts and feelings usually contain a lot of deep, human meaning behind them that yearns to be understood and befriended. Our "disorders" are frequently nothing else but parts of us that are stuck in painful periods of our lives. Attending and listening to them from a place of compassion and curiosity goes a long way to help them relax and change.
