My Approach to Helping
Hello, and thank you for visiting! Seeking counseling is a courageous but sometimes difficult step, so please feel free to call or email, if you have questions.
My approach to therapy is grounded in companioning people through a careful understanding of what they can and cannot change. There are many things in life that can seem overwhelming, so starting therapy with small and simple goals (that have solutions) is important. Sometimes, this may include improving daily choices, being more assertive with loved ones, or changing harmful habits in thinking.
The other side of this approach, coming to an acceptance of what can't be changed, may often be rooted in one's experience of trauma or loss. These unchangeable life experiences and circumstances can seem insurmountable or feel "stuck in place". To heal, I strive to help clients process their emotional experiences, find meaning in their pain and re-assess directions towards renewal.
More Info About My Practice
My practice sometimes involves work with family members who may be affected by their loved ones' problems (trauma, addiction, depression). Many people find hope when they realize that renewed communication, and understanding of the problem, can make a difference.
Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
Issues that I specialize in include trauma recovery, anxiety management (including fears and worry), depression and loss, and relationship challenges. I also practice empowering those who are struggling with health or medical issues, that may or may not be stress related.
My View on the Nature of 'Disorders'
Most people are faced with multiple stressors in daily life, and people who seek counseling often carry an "overload" of these stressors. Severe stress can rapidly cause people to lose a sense of meaning in their life. I view psychological challenges or diagnoses as commonly connected in these stressors, so this is primary in treatment planning with clients.
