My Approach to Helping
Your relationship with your therapist is the most important part of the process of beginning to create better outcomes in your life. Because of this, I try to be sure that I listen empathetically from your perspective, I respond truthfully, and I reflect unconditional positive regard for you and your specific situation. We will build a bond of trust and confidentiality so that you will begin to feel safe enough to allow truth and wisdom to shine through. If you are experiencing grief, depression or anxiety in response to an event from your past or even recently, we will work on alleviating your symptoms with a variety of techniques that I will tailor for your personality type, preferences, and abilities. Above all, you will be investing in a better life for yourself and your loved ones.
More Info About My Practice
My experiences as a psychotherapist at Fort Hood with military families helped prepare me for a wide variety of issues plaguing our population. I deliberately received training in trauma treatments such as EMDR (level 1 and 2 trained.) I also participated in Family Therapy for many groups and couples and found that many are experiencing attachment problems. I put together an Attachment-Focused Parenting class at Scott & White to help train parents in the language and behaviors of becoming more attached to our loved ones. Currently, my clients are self-pay (no insurance); although a superbill can be printed for potential out-of-network reimbursement depending on the plan.
What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist
This profession is a calling, a true vocation. Many people wouldn't choose it, they ask "how can you listen to problems all day?" I noticed that almost all the books I bought during my adult years were about personal growth. So when it was time to go back to work after my children were a certain age, this was the field I was attracted to. The classes I took for my Master's Degree were classes I would have taken for fun...I loved them and I love being there to help my clients. Many have remarked that my passion for this field shows in the way I work, and I am so happy to have found this career after age 40. I hope to do it for the rest of my life.
