My Approach to Helping
Child sexual abuse and other cumulative adverse childhood experiences can lead to a variety of acute and chronic physical, mental, emotional, social, spiritual, and relational difficulties or illnesses.
Decades of serving others as a family and addictions therapist fuels my passion and commitment to community-based primary prevention initiatives. Educating all adults (including staff & volunteers of schools, faith, recreationsports, and youth serving organizations) with research-informed prevention skills & policies is necessary to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. Changing the social and cultural norms that enable child sexual abuse to occur reduces the opportunities for trauma and harm to children. This can, in turn, reduce cumulative adverse childhood experiences and ensuing adaptive behaviors and aforementioned health issues.
As a Community Consultant and Certifying Instructor of Darkness to Light’s Stewards of Children child sexual abuse prevention training, I welcome the opportunity to facilitate the Stewards of Children trainings in communities, instruct the facilitator training workshops, and consult with communities on developing comprehensive child sexual abuse prevention education initiatives.
