My Approach to Helping

I believe in the work I do with others, where together we can reach a depth of understanding to allow you to heal and gain a greater self-understanding. Many elements of knowledge go into my counseling, informing who I am as a person and how I practice.

A few of these areas are highlighted below.

I hope they help you understand more about me, and give you an idea of what to expect and what are some of the key areas of my counseling.

~Mark

I have experienced seeing the enjoyment of life return, with further insight, meaning and purpose, in the lives of the individuals and couples I have worked with in practice. I believe in creating the proper space for the work we do together: trusting in the ability we have within us to heal, focusing on what you are sharing in an effort to truly understand, and genuinely being with you as we explore concerns together.

I am influenced by what our culture considers feminine ways of being. Taking time out to enjoy life, finding the value in just being, nurturing an internal connection with oneself, and prizing this connection above anyone or anything else not valuing who we are, these are just some of the examples of this way. I think there is a balance with the achieving and external focus of more masculine approaches of living to be found.

I am informed by spiritual understandings that have been around for many thousands of years, which include Christian, Buddhist, and Hindu traditions. I believe in the sanctity and sacredness of our bodies while still living on this earth, all the while maintaining a connection to what we believe. Being completely natural and ourselves, who we are, becomes no different than experiencing the naturalness and freedom of any spiritual path, description failing to capture the peace and experience of love to be found here.

More Info About My Practice

I have been meditating for over twenty years, and find people experience a greater level of peace, and a greater level of depth in it, as they may learn from me how to meditate, and incorporate that into their lives. I began leading meditations in 2011 at a local mental health agency, and continue to enjoy leading groups and individuals in this practice. I currently lead a meditation group every Wednesday at 6pm at my office location in Independence. Please feel free to email me if you would like to reserve a place in this group, or if you have any questions about it.

For the first time I am introducing the ideas and practices known as Tantra in my work. It is important to distinguish the Tantra I am speaking of from the Neo-Tantra that you will most likely find on the Internet. Tantra represents an Eastern wisdom tradition dating back to around 500 A.D., if not to earlier times, and highlights the importance of the feminine, in its most well-defined sense. It establishes the equality, if not superiority at times, of women in its understandings, and represents at its roots a thousands-of-year-old tradition where the body and being human are embraced and a part of the path.

For all of these reasons I personally and professionally find it to be of immeasurable value. Where else can you find such a living tradition from history where our everyday lives represent such a path to deeper understanding, where all of us are equally a part of and valued in the search for this understanding, and it comes by means of what we encounter each and every day, not by means of a restrictive sense of privilege, where the few hold the key and the means by which we can improve our lives, ourselves, and our situations?

Tantra has naturally converged with my counseling.

Both emphasize the importance of being simply who we are, and allow us the option of going deeper into that understanding.

Briefly said, I wholeheartedly embrace Tantra as a person and as a practitioner helping others.

Those are some of the main areas to highlight within my counseling, and I would enjoy sharing them with you whatever you may be experiencing. I truly believe we can reach such a healing and deeper level of understanding together, where life begins to unfold more around the discovery of yourself once again.

Please feel welcome in reaching out for my guidance; I am ready to journey with you.

Wholeheartedly.

~Mark
