My Approach to Helping
Therapists have lots of different approaches and styles. Some therapists are gentle and passive, some are more in your face and directive. Some may be very woo-woo and spiritual and others may be more concrete and practical. Finding a good therapy fit is kinda like finding a good pair of comfortable shoes. You may feel more comfortable with certain styles, personalities or approaches and you just have to try some on to make sure it fits.
I'm more of an eclectic therapist. I use different therapy techniques depending on what you need. I come from the perspective that we are all doing the best that we can but often times we need to figure out how to get out of our own way. I believe that we all have strengths that we can work from (even if we can readily see them). I'm collaborative and solution focused. I lean towards exploring and discovering the beliefs and values that are holding us back so that we can take action towards our goals. While it's important to acknowledge and honor our pasts, our pasts do not dictate our future. We have the power to re-write our story and we say how our story will end.

Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist
Let's face it, our friends and family aren't always as supportive as we would like or need them to be. It can be especially hard to talk to family or friends if we're dealing with something that's sensitive, embarrassing, or shameful. Therapy is a safe place where you can practice being both vulnerable and courageous. You can learn to ask for what you need or learn to set boundaries. It's a no judgment zone. It's a place where you have unending support, even when you feel like you are at your worst.
When choosing a therapist, it's important to get a feel for the therapist and see if they are a good match for you. Research has shown that the most effective therapy isn't about the school or therapy technique... it's about the fit. Ask yourself, how you feel around the therapist, can you see yourself opening up to them, do you feel comfortable? Think about what style feedback works best for you.. is it direct and to the point or do you prefer someone with a softer approach. Ask the therapist how they give feedback.

Using your laptop or smart device, we meet in a secure video. It's kinda like Skype or FaceTime, but secure. The platform is HIPPA compliant so your information and your story wll stay private.
As long as you have access to the internet and can stream something like YouTube or Netflix we can meet from anywhere you feel comfortable.
