My Approach to Helping
My almost 30 years experience working primarily with children, adolescents, and families define my approach. I worked for several years at NY Hospital Cornell inpatient with renowned psychiatrists in the field of child and adolescent psychiatry. I learned different approaches and philosophies and how to modify then based on the individual. To be most successful you must utilize what works best for the child or family. Using one approach limits your success rate. I also work full-time as a school counselor for about 15 years. I work with children, adolescents. teachers, and parents every day. I see a great many kids and know all the issues in school first hand. I know how to direct parents in my practice. My number one tool is I connect with children. I can relate to them and have never had a kid not want to continue working with me. My office is warm and friendly and humor is my best friend especially with adolescents. I offer experience, warmth, and myself first. I am available outside of sessions and my families can call me anytime and always get a return call. I am devoted to helping my clients become more successful today, tomorrow, and in the future. It is difficult being a child or adolescent in the world we now live in, we offer a safe environment and a place where they can be heard and what they say matters. Sometimes as parents we wait and hope things will get better, sometimes they do, but quite often things escalate and it then takes longer to make the changes necessary to be successful emotionally and academically.
