My Approach to Helping
Do you feel stuck, or overwhelmed by feelings of frustration or loneliness? Do you believe you are facing too many challenges at once? Are you concerned that your relationship is not working? Do you wonder if this is all there is in life? Does it feel as if no one truly understands your pain? Are you curious as to how "just talking" to someone may help?
If you are concerned by these issues, please know there is hope. I have helped many people who are experiencing mid life challenges, loss and grief, divorce, separation, posttraumatic stress, cancer, and other chronic illnesses. My clinical training and experience has taught me that cool indifference, a blank slate, and a lack of direction will not meet the needs of people in distress. You can be confident that my therapeutic approach will be compassionate, direct, and authentic.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
I am very interested in working with clients who are facing difficult life changes. I agree with the statement "what works for the morning of one's life does not always work for the afternoon of one's life." I have a particular interest in working with clients experiencing mid life changes and challenges. In addition, I have a passion for working with clients who have experienced trauma,
components of social justice. I also have an interest and background in working with clients with cancer, and chronic illness and/or disability. I also have had success with and an interest in working with law enforcement professionals who by the very nature of their job have unique stressors, both while working and after retiring. I have also experience and passion with working with gay and lesbian individuals and couples. I specialize in an enjoyable and highly effective couples counseling approach called Imago therapy which clients often tell me has renewed their relationships and saved their marriage!
My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy
The purpose of psychotherapy is to clear the psyche of obstacles to healthy productive lives and relationships.
My Guiding Ethical Principles
I never treat a person if I believe my skill sets are not the best match for their needs. I believe the therapy process is very much based on trust and that it should be entirely focused on what is in the patient's best interest. I believe in the dignity and integrity of every individual and that any behavior which attempts to place the therapists' needs in the midst of the relationship is exploitive.
