My Approach to Helping
I take an unconventional approach to therapy. I'm interested in helping my clients find meaning rather than diagnosing them. I focus on change and growth by honing our insights. I don't do behavioral therapy because I believe that if we could think our way out of problems, change wouldn't be so hard. I often work within a 12-step framework, and I know that spiritual issues may play a role in healing. For therapy to work, a good match between the therapist and his client is vital.
I've been in private practice for 30 years, and for the past 13 years, have been affiliated with the Hazelden Foundation. I train new therapists as well. I offer an individualized approach, and am thrilled to meet with you for a preliminary consultation so you can see how I work.
I work best with clients who want to change and develop self-knowledge. I'm also comfortable working with clients who face long-standing or difficult challenges. For a more comprehensive overview of my background, approach, and insurance policies, please view my website.
