My Approach to Helping
My approach is relational, warm and direct. I believe that in order to heal, a client must be able to trust that their therapist can hold all of them and their experience. My professional experience working extensively with trauma survivors has given me an unshakeable core from which I feel I am able to guide clients towards growth. In my practice, I emphasize self-inquiry and curiosity around one's current struggles, while also exploring childhood experiences that may have contributed to personality structures and life patterns. Through dialogue, I guide people toward gaining a clearer understanding of their personal history and the way that their environment has shaped them. I believe that coming to understand and accept the past is the key to changing the inaccurate stories we have woven about ourselves and allows us to open up new possibilities for our future. Together we will begin to write a different, more accurate story about the self, one based more on reality and less on harsh self-judgment and criticism. Every individual has a unique path toward healing and psychological growth, and I strive to be open, collaborative and responsive to my clients on our journey together. In my approach, I most heavily draw from relational, psychodynamic and psychoanalytic orientations to psychotherapy.
