My Approach to Helping
I am passionate about working with people from different cultural backgrounds, exploring how complex identities and unique personal experiences have shaped us into who we are. I have extensive experience of working with clients from bimulti racialethnical backgrounds, sexual orientations, immigration statuses, gender presentations, and socio-economic statuses.
A special area of expertise of mine is working with individuals to discover inner strength, create healthy relationships and reconcile culturalinter-generational conflicts. I specialize in working with individuals to address anxiety, depression, complex trauma, relationship issues, stress, anger, cultural identity, family conflict, grief, self-esteem, life transitions and other areas of concern.
I utilize a wide range of therapy approaches including DBT, ACT, CBT, Somatic, Psychodynamic, Neuroscience-informed, Strength-based, Solution-focused, Trauma-focused, Culturally-sensitive, and other therapy approaches. I've also been trained in Gottman Method for couple’s therapy, which provides me a unique point of view while working on relationship issues.
As a first generation Asian immigrant myself, I understand how challenging it can be to articulate and reconcile multiple cultural identities. I was born in Wuhan, grew up in Guangzhou, and moved to Chicago in 2012 to pursue my master’s degree in Social Work. I have also lived and studied in Manila, the Philippines, and Mumbai, India.
I take cultural systems and unique personal experiences into consideration while focusing on personal growth. I love using a casual and relational approach to help people process their experiences and rediscover their self-confidence and self-compassion. If you’re looking for an open and authentic therapist who sees and understands your unique strengths, needs, and values, I would love to work with you.
