My Approach to Helping

As a couples therapist, Lisa Abrotsky integrates and explores past issues from different angles, helping couples gain insight into adjustments they may need to make in the relationship. She has worked in the behavioral health and substance abuse field for the past 12 years. She has experience working with various populations and socioeconomic statuses in community-based behavioral health care/substance abuse treatment organizations.

Lisa Abrotsky has a B.S. in Psychology from Florida Atlantic University and a Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Nova Southeastern University. She has extensive education, training, and experience in the field of substance abuse/addictions. She is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Certified Parenting Instructor and a Batterers Intervention Facilitator with the state of Florida. As a family therapist, she is able to integrate her knowledge of education and mental health issues to help families? problem-solve, overcome personal issues, and create lasting change for a better tomorrow. She uses a holistic approach where healing of the mind, body, and spirit is a priority for successful treatment.

"I strongly believe all individuals have the power to change and through a collaborative approach, all goals can be achieved."

My Role as a Therapist

Like other therapists, I specialize in the arena of marriage and family therapy working with patients to sort out their emotional issues, create a better view of life, to connect couples and families to their goal and purpose in the relationship, and to overcome the negative story they have been telling themselves. Marriage and family therapists are more concerned with fixing the interpersonal relationships between their patients and identifying anything that may potentially be straining them. While doing so you get to be a neutral party to both people listening to where you can support them in re-writing their story and begin to heal emotional scars. Part of a therapist's training prepares them to identify a host of emotional and psychological disorders like depression, anxiety, substance use, anger, parenting issues, and other mental health issues. Another valuable skill the therapist must possess is the ability to bring people out of their shells and feel like they are in a safe space for healing to occur. A Marriage and Family therapist gets to be prepared to help patients through some major ordeals that ultimately create the most emotional turmoil
